The three questions that decide the value
Does it have a valid inspection (syn)? A car with months left on its inspection is worth noticeably more than one that is due, because the next owner does not have to gamble on the outcome. If the car failed its last inspection, read our failed inspection guide.
Is it a make and model people still want? Older Toyotas, Hondas, Skodas and VW Group cars with diesel or simple petrol engines hold value at very high mileage. Older premium cars with complex electronics and large engines often do not: they are expensive to keep running, and the pool of buyers is small.
What is the next big bill? Timing belt, clutch, dual-mass flywheel, diesel particulate filter, rust repair before inspection. If the next known bill is more than a third of what the car is worth, that bill is the reason to sell now rather than after paying it.
Keeping it versus selling it
An old car you use every day and that passes inspection is usually the cheapest car you will ever own, so keep it. The calculation changes when it becomes a second car that mostly stands still: insurance, road tax and the annual inspection continue, while the car quietly loses value and develops the faults that come from not being driven. Selling a car that stands unused is almost always the right decision.
How to sell an old car quickly
A private sale of an old car attracts bargain hunters and takes time. A direct sale to a buyer like us takes a few days: send us the registration number, the mileage, whether it starts and drives, and a few honest photos including the rust and the worn seats. We look up the car's inspection history ourselves. Payment at handover, free collection across Denmark, and we take over the paperwork.
If the car turns out to be worth only its scrap value, we tell you so, and you can still have it collected and scrapped correctly through us with the scrapping premium paid out. See our scrapping guide.

Questions & answers
Is a car with 300,000 km worth anything in Denmark?
Often yes, if it is a make with a reputation for reliability, it starts and drives, and it has a valid inspection. Mileage alone does not make a car a scrap car.
Should I get the car inspected before selling it?
Not if it is due soon and you expect it to fail. Sell it as it stands and let the buyer take the inspection risk. If it has months left, keep the inspection valid — it adds value.
Can I sell an old car that has been standing unused for a year?
Yes. Tell us how long it has stood, whether it starts, and whether the tyres hold air. We collect cars that do not move.
